Welcome to The Red Light House! The Red Light House is a queer, women-led collective providing versatile and intimate arts experiences in North Minneapolis. Rooted in community and authenticity, our unique house-based space has served as a launchpad for the dreamers and doers, free from gatekeeping.

After 3 years of being open and over 75 community events, The Red Light House is expanding from our home base. Our doors will be closed for venue bookings during this interim period. There have been many limitations when operating our business from a residential area. We chose to base our art space out of a house so as not to separate what we are creating and how we are living. But you can bet our next space will still feel like home!

Mission

The Red Light House is a queer, women-led collective providing versatile and intimate arts experiences in North Minneapolis. Rooted in community and authenticity, our unique house-based space has served as a launchpad for the dreamers and doers, free from gatekeeping.

Vision

After 3 years of being open and over 75 community events, The Red Light House is entering a new chapter. While we have been operating out of our home in North Minneapolis, our work has grown to the point that our collective now needs to seek a commercial space to base our events and studio work. We are in the process of applying for grants to help us sustain and expand our work while remaining accessible to our community. We are learning what it will take to sustain our collective projects as we take our next steps.

Values

Accessibility, Inclusivity, Authenticity, Experimentation, Respect, Creativity, Collaboration, Queer Centered, Community Focused, and Sustainability

“The Red Light House is Femme led. It’s led by amazing women who have heart. And I saw it when I met the amazing owners of this place. And at the heart of The Red Light House is community. And that’s what’s been missing from a lot of these venues is having a sense of safety, but also growth where people can go ahead and be free to be themselves and talk to others. I partnered with them for Music Industry Nights and Wedding Industry Nights to bring a sense of community, a sense of mentorship and leadership. We had multiple different special guests and amazing peers that stopped by to share music and share experience, it just really encouraged us.”

-DJ Low, CEO of Gold Culture Entertainment

“There’s a lot of love here you know, that’s what I can say. There's a lot of love here. It don’t feel like no normal venue, it feels like home.”

- Duke Down, Community Event Organizer

“The energy is lush. It was my first time here and I feel I will be leaving with passion, creative energy, love, female empowerment & a new experience. Love you guys. Thank you!”

-Riley Sonja, Community Member

“The fact that The Red Light House is Queer owned and operated is really dope. And I feel like they’re less of those spaces than I think should be in the Twin Cities, especially for the arts. Gay bars are great and I love a good party, but it’s nice to have a space specifically dedicated to art and expression. To have an unfiltered space where people can radically show up as themselves is really needed. And I’ve not really seen this much flexibility and variety in just one space before.”

- Lauren Coleman, Community Member & Artist

“I have a lot of memories from this space. The first show that I went to was Arts Fest 2024 which was super awesome and right away it inspired me to want to be a part of all the stuff that was going on at The Red Light House. After that I was a part of Hallowweekend and it was my first time being a part of the organizing side of an event. A couple of really close friends of mine have a band called Sonic Alloy and they played their very first gig at Hallowweekend and they totally crushed it! And ever since then they’ve been playing gigs all over the place. That’s one I think of many artists that kind of got their start in this space.”

- Oscar Cozza, Owner of Twin Cities Botanicals

“What I really love that you all are doing is creating a safe space. It feels very sacred. To see so many young generation artists coming together and having a place to debut their work, show their work, share their passions and love. There’s celebration within that. It is inspirational. It is innovative. And it is very much needed more so now than ever."
